National Day of Service Demonstrates Landscape Professionals’ Impact on Their Communities

HERNDON, Va., April 23, 2015 — The National Association of Landscape Professionals held its national day of service on Earth Day, April 22. This grassroots event allows companies to organize volunteer landscape and turf care projects in their own communities, in areas where the need is the greatest. This year, 60 volunteer landscape projects were conducted across the country.

Over the last seven years that Day of Service has been held, 1,000 projects have been completed by 16,000 volunteers at an estimated value of $4 million. However, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. The impact is much more personal for the children who receive teaching gardens and new outdoor play spaces and for the communities that benefit from revitalized parks and monuments.

“Our members are truly amazing,” said NALP CEO Sabeena Hickman, CAE, CMP. “They are really the unsung heroes in their communities and these projects are usually just part of the pro-bono work that they do over the course of the year in their hometowns. It is important to shed light on their professionalism and commitment.”

The event is made possible through the support of CNA Business Insurance and JOHN DEERE and supporting sponsor HighGrove.
