Health and Physical Safety

The physical hazards on landscape jobsites are numerous. Workers in our industry face higher-than-average risks for heat- and cold-related illnesses, skin cancer, eye and musculoskeletal injuries, skin cuts and lacerations, hearing and respiratory damage and reactions/diseases related to poisonous plants and wildlife. They are more vulnerable to severe weather as well. Fortunately, there are steps both employers and crew members can take to significantly reduce all these risks. Personal protective equipment, for example, is an effective tool for minimizing exposure to many hazards.
