Phil Allen, Ph.D. Receives Lifetime Leadership Award from NALP

Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award presented to Crystal Arlington

HERNDON, Va., February 26, 2016 — The National Association of Landscape Professionals presented its Lifetime Leadership Award to Phil Allen, Ph.D., Landscape Industry Certified, at its executive-level conference, Leaders Forum, at the Hilton Beach and Golf Resort, Los Cabos, Mexico.

NALP’s Lifetime Leadership Award is presented annually to a member of the association who has demonstrated leadership, service, and commitment to both NALP and the landscape industry. It honors individuals who have improved the landscape industry, inspired others throughout their careers with their pioneering spirit and demonstrated inventiveness.

Allen is a longtime educator in the industry working with Brigham Young University – Provo. He is a former member of the NALP board of directors, currently serves on the Foundation board and the Education Advisory Council and is an NALP Trailblazer. He has also served on many other committees within the association.

“Phil’s contributions to NALP and this industry are immeasurable,” said Sabeena Hickman, CAE, CEO of NALP. “His love for the industry, but most of all his love for the young people that make up the future of our industry is what makes Phil so special.  His leadership, friendship, and knowledge have enhanced our industry, and we are grateful for his contributions.”

The second-annual Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award was presented to Crystal Arlington, Landscape Industry Certified, owner and president of Affiliated Grounds Maintenance Group. Arlington founded her company in 1999 as a regional service provider and has grown the company to do work in 31 states with more than 4,500 affiliate partners, seeing year after year growth. 

Arlington’s business success is also built on the highest standards of professionals. She holds a Certified Snow Professional as well as Landscape Industry Certified credential and is in the process of getting her Green Association Certification with the U.S. Green Building Association.  She has also received numerous safety awards and is currently an NALP Trailblazer.
