HISTORY

Since its inception in 1998, the Foundation was created to help the future leaders of our industry fund their education.  Committed to the advancement of landscape industry services, the Foundation raised more than $1 million during the initial launch year through the generous support of individual landscape contractors, industry suppliers, and from the students themselves.

To date, this now $4.1 million foundation has awarded more than $1 million in academic scholarships.  In March 2016, the Foundation presented 53 scholarships and awards, bringing the 2016 scholarship total $91,000 so far, at NALP’s 40th annual National Collegiate Landscape Competition. The scholarships were distributed to students at a special reception, sponsored by STIHL Inc., and highlighted during the Closing Ceremony.

In May of 2014, the Foundation Board of Directors approved the Foundation's first strategic plan.  The Board recognized that there is a shortage of well-qualified employees in the industry and enrollment at many college and university landscape and horticulture programs is rapidly declining.  The Foundation decided to act quickly to reverse the trend and attract people to the landscape industry now.  A new mission and vision was created; as well as an expanded Foundation scope that includes public education to promote landscape industry careers by supporting efforts to recruit professionals into the industry as well as scholarships to help students to excel.
