LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

Government agencies have identified apprenticeship programs as a proven solution for recruiting, training and retaining top-tier talent. The new Landscape Management Apprenticeship Program, sponsored by the National Association of Landscape Professionals and registered by the Department of Labor, offers job seekers a path to a new career through a paid apprenticeship with a landscape company that includes on-the-job training.

Launching in early 2019, the national Apprenticeship Program will create a platform for landscape companies to attract and train new employees; putting people to work and helping to alleviate the chronic industry workforce shortage.

THE BIG PICTURE

Our national Landscape Management Apprenticeship Program prepares individuals to fill maintenance, installation, and irrigation positions.

The program requires 2000 hours of on-the-job training divided into 17 skill areas and a minimum of 144 hours of education in the classroom or through online training. Upon completion of the program, apprentices will receive a nationally recognized credential that validates their skills and knowledge.

How Does My Company Participate?

The Apprenticeship Program doesn’t match companies with apprentices: you select current employees or hire new workers to enter your Apprenticeship Program.

You register the apprentice and track his/her hours and competencies.

You follow the guidelines set-out by the program for on-the-job training, paying progressively higher wages as skills increase. The program requires 2000 hours of on-the-job training divided into 17 skill areas.

The apprentice will complete a minimum of 144 hours of education in the classroom or through NALP’s online training in maintenance, installation, and irrigation.)

You will identify an experienced mentor to work with each apprentice.

Once the apprentice completes all the requirements, he/she will receive a certificate from the Department of Labor.
